21 days of prayer and fasting
GENERAL INFO : Every year at Discovery Church at the start of the year, we have a 21 day period of prayer and fasting. This is a time that we set apart to grow closer to God, as we trust Him to do miraculous things in our lives and our church. We would love for you to join us in this, so here is some general information about different types of fasting that we will be doing as a staff, and as a church. Whatever fast you choose, make sure to use the extra time you have in your day to pray and seek after God: This is the true purpose of fasting.
This is the fast that Jesus would have done back in Biblical times. No food, only water (some will include juice). This is a very intense fast, and is not recommended for people who are not used to fasting regularly. Maybe try once a week to fast for a full day or two, or even just fast one meal every day using this technique. Use caution, and of course, consult your doctor before trying anything this strenuous.
The Daniel Fast is what we have traditionally done here at Discovery for years now. It is based off of Daniel's diet from the Bible, only fruits and vegetables. Get your protein from beans and other natural sources, and enjoy the natural cleanse that comes from this fast. Salad is your best friend!
We are obsessed with media. Whether it is on our phones, tablets, or TV's, we are constantly checking up on our favorite sports, celebrities, shows, and friends. Try fasting all media, or maybe a form of media that takes up a large part of your day like Netflix and Hulu, or Facebook and Instagram. Whatever you do, make sure it is not easy, or the point of why we are doing it is lost.
